A few years ago, thanks to someone’s address muddle, I met another Elaine Harris. When writing to me she signs herself “The Other Elaine”.
We became firm friends although we’ve never actually met and I interviewed her on ABC Radio. We still occasionally receive each other’s correspondence, by accident rather than design.
She lives in Perth, Western Australia, and wrote these comments last week.
Perfect for the Eve of the 63rd anniversary of the Queen’s coronation.
“Postie has been. At long last the postie delivered my “Ghosts Royal” today … and I have just finished reading it (in bed)… What an achievement for you. Apart from some imagination, a lot of research as well. Well done!
Was a joy to read. I can remember standing in Stirling Highway in 1954 with thousands of others with our coronation flags in hand …Which I might Add I still have. Stirling Highway being the main road between Perth, the Capital of Western Australia, and Fremantle, our port; it is about 12 miles long in the old language. We were all waiting for the Queen to drive past. Think she had come in on the Britannia.
What a find Natalie was too … her illustrations are just perfect for the story!”
So now you have two Elaine Harrises for the price of one.
Happy Coronation Anniversary for tomorrow! The real Elaine Harris (well real to me & Himself).
